It holds regular Community Days, runs an annual conference and takes part in various events & research projects. Membership of the COMIT Community is by annual subscription and COMIT currently has over 70 member organisation - including leading construction clients, contractors, suppliers and academic institutions. COMIT began in 2003 as a two-year research and development project part-funded by the UK Government’s Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). Initially led by the global design company ARUP, in partnership with BSRIA (the Building Services Research and Information Association) and Loughborough University, the project brought together representatives from construction, technology, research and dissemination organisations to form the COMIT Community. COMIT was so successful that at the end of the project in 2005 it continued as a member-funded organisation. COMIT Projects Ltd was then formed in December 2010 to continue to run the community on a not-for-profit basis for the benefit of its members.
