Founded by Monica Chadha, Civic Projects is a hybrid architecture practice in Chicago that takes a participatory approach to design, building teams and working collaboratively with communities and organizations to develop work that address community revitalization. These projects expand the role of architecture in neighborhoods, utilizing both small scale and long-term strategic thinking. Civic Projects focuses on bringing high-quality architecture and design to under-served communities. Current works include partnering with Ralph Applebaum Associates for the Exhibition and Interpretive Planning for the Obama Presidential Center, leading the Strategic Programming and Planning for the Chicago Torture Justice Center and the Virginio Ferrari Foundation Contemporary Arts Center, a museum and studio fostering community and local artists in the Washington Park area. Past work includes micro-revitalization projects in Bronzeville and mixed-use projects in Chatham and the Englewood Business Accelerator. Civic Projects also designed Sugar Beet Food Coop a local and sustainable source community space and grocery store that has garnered national attention and is developing contemporary art spaces in Oak Park. Civic Projects is a Certified Minority and Woman Owned Business.
