Bangladesh Cancer Aid Trust – BANCAT is a non-profit working towards raising awareness, with the ultimate goal, of eliminating cancer as a major health problem in Bangladesh by prevention and diminishing suffering through education, advocacy and service. Cancer is a draining disease - socially, emotionally and financially. The suffering endured by the cancer impacted families is incomprehensible, and is particularly acute when it strikes a family from the underserved community. BANCAT primarily works towards providing financial, emotional, and advisory support to the cancer patients from the underserved community of Bangladesh. Inexplicably, people at large tend to turn a blind eye towards cancer, and this is an area where BANCAT works aggressively to build awareness against cancer. The genesis of BANCAT started with one individual – a cancer survivor. It was during his own treatment that he realised the prevalence of this silent killer in Bangladesh, how oblivious people were to this scourge, and the sheer lack of awareness, policy, and resources that were allocated towards cancer treatments. Yet, there is hardly a family that hasn’t experienced a death from cancer. The survivor – having been given a second chance in his life – made it his life’s mission to change this landscape. He thus, set out to form BANCAT – an organization solely dedicated to fight cancer in all avenues. BANCAT believes that we all are born with the ability to change someone’s life and hence our motto: it takes one to save one. Let BANCAT be the bridge between YOU and cancer patients in need of you.
