Foundation for the Support of the United Nations (FSUN) is an international non-governmental organization (NGO) founded in November 1988 and headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. FSUN has established chapters in Japan, China, Cambodia, the Philippines and the United States. The Foundation for the Support of the United Nations (FSUN) is an NGO in General Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) since 1996. General Consultative Status, the highest status within the system, is reserved for large international NGOs whose area of work covers most of the issues on the agenda of ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies. Currently, there are only 144 NGOs who are in General Consultative Status with ECOSOC, from 3,536 NGOs with Consultative Status. FSUN is also duly associated with the United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI). As the liaison office to the United Nations, FSUN-UNO serves as the Foundation's focal group at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. FSUN-UNO works with the United Nations Secretariat, programs, funds and agencies in various ways, including in consultation with Member States, information dissemination, awareness raising, development education, policy advocacy, joint operational projects, participation in intergovernmental processes and in the contribution of services and technical expertise. The Foundation for the Support of the United Nations (FSUN) team of representatives attend official meetings, submit written statements prior to sessions, make oral statements, meet official government delegations and other NGO representatives, organize and attend parallel events that take place during the session, participate in debates, interactive dialogues, panel discussions and informal meetings held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
