FareShare rescues surplus food and cooks free nutritious meals for Australians in need. Every year, around four million Aussies won't know where their next meal is coming from while the nation has a $20 billion food waste problem! This doesn’t make any sense. FareShare tackles this tragedy head on by rescuing surplus, quality food from supermarkets, farmers and other food businesses and cooking it into nutritious meals. We operate Australia’s largest charity kitchens out of Melbourne and Brisbane. With the help of 1300 regular volunteers, FareShare cooks more than 10,000 free meals a day for charities such as soup vans, homeless shelters, women’s refuges and community food banks. Since 2016, FareShare has also been growing our own vegetables in Melbourne to supplement what we can rescue for our nutritious meals. FareShare Kitchen Gardens now grow more than 44 per cent of the vegetables we need to keep our meals nutritious in Victoria. For every $15 FareShare receives, we can cook 20 free, nutritious meals for people in crisis. We welcome corporate volunteers in both kitchens.
