pphe.utk.eduAlignCare is the national One Health healthcare system designed to improve access to veterinary care for families who participate in means-tested assistance programs such as Food Stamps, Medicaid, WIC, Section 8, unemployment and/or SSI. AlignCare aligns community resources and activities resulting in healthier communities. Community benefits: · More families able to access veterinary care · More pets recover from an injury/illness · Fewer economic euthanasias and relinquishments to animal welfare organizations · More families receive needed emotional support when faced with a medical crisis involving their pets · Improved zoonotic disease prevention/control · Healthier families and communities Community Animal Welfare, Social Services and Public Health Professionals have: · Predictable and consistent options when supporting families needing veterinary care, saving them time and resources · Access to trained professionals who support families with pet-related needs Veterinary Service Providers have: · The ability to treat pets of families with limited resources, reducing euthanasia of pets with treatable illnesses/injuries · A more significant impact in preventing/controlling zoonotic diseases in their community Veterinary Social Work Coordinators provide a service to: · Families by supporting their mental and emotional health needs related to their pets and connecting them with other community resources · Veterinary care teams, when challenged while helping a family with certain limitations and needs
