Founded in 1961, the Alliance française of Dar es Salaam, the French language and cultural center in Dar es Salaam, is a Tanzanian non-profit association operating with the support of the French Embassy. Run by a Board of Directors made of Tanzanian personalities, the Alliance Française is located in Upanga, in its current premises which were inaugurated in 2000 by former President Benjamin Mkapa. The Alliance Française of Dar es Salaam has two missions statements: • To promote the teaching and learning of the French language. • To present cultural activities and to strengthen cultural exchanges between artists and offer concerts, conferences, artist exhibitions, and film festivals targeted to the Tanzanian audience.
