Accredition: Goa University has currently (2014-19) been accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of India with A Grade. NAAC is an autonomous body established by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India to assess and accredit institutions of higher education. Ranking: The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) (an organ of Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Govt. of India) in its cycle of ranking Indian Higher Educational Institutions in the year 2019, ranked Goa University at 93rd rank (visit https://www.nirfindia.org/2019/UniversityRanking.html) among the Universities. QS University rankings - a World University rankings agency - has ranked Goa University in the range of 56-60 among Indian Universities for the year 2019. Among the QS World University Rankings for 'BRICS countries 2019', Goa University is among the group of 241-250 universities. There are about 9000 universities in BRICS countries. The News magazines in India conduct such ranking exercise every year. 'India Today' ranked at 20th level among the State funded Universities in India and among the overall universities 'The Week' ranked us at 36 (in 2019). Admissions: The number of programmes and the total student strength at the University campus is on increase. The 26 departments imparting PG education at the University campus harbours about 2000 students today for the PG programmes alone. The student strength at the affiliated non-professional and professional colleges in 2017-18 was 22776 and 10958 respectively. There are about 500 students registered for PhD programmes doing their research at the University departments, affiliated colleges and recognized institutions.
