If You want to go far, go together" - African Proverb In 1982 African governments, the African Development Bank (AfDB), the African Reinsurance Corporation (Africa Re) and the CDC (UK's Development Finance Institution) decided to go together, and they created the first Pan-African Mortgage Finance Institution. Operations began in 1985 and since then the membership of African countries has grown to 44 countries with the promise of more to come. Housing and urbanisation will be one of the contending issues facing the continent in the next decade and Shelter Afrique is at the forefront of this issue. With its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, Shelter Afrique has raised over 500 Million Dollars and has financed over 15,000 housing units in its 31 years of operations.
