The Wyoming State Library is one of five divisions of the Department of Administration & Information, along with Budget, Economic Analysis, General Services and Human Resources. The State Library’s mission is to support Wyoming’s libraries and to serve as a resource for Wyoming residents, and state government employees. The Wyoming State Library was established in 1871, when the fledgling territory’s 2nd Legislature created a Territorial Library of documents, maps and geological specimens. From those beginnings in Cheyenne’s Opera House, the State Library has become an information hub for Wyoming’s government and residents, embracing changing technologies from paper to microform to electronic. In 1995, WSL launched WYLDCAT, the statewide electronic library catalog that connects over 100 public, academic, school and special library collections. GoWYLD.net, the State Library's portal to knowledge and learning, includes powerful research databases and digital content collections that support education and recreation for all library card holders in the state. WSL celebrates Wyoming’s history through the creation and curation of a digital collections of the state’s historical newspapers, places, patents, trademarks, legislation, and state documents.
