Lower Hurst Organic
www.lowerhurstorganic.co.ukLower Hurst is a working organic farm which makes a range of beef products. We use our own home bred beef along with beef from a number of organic farms similar to ourselves. Our aim is to offer high quality, high welfare beef products which meet the requirements of schools and caterers. We are real farmers with real farms who deliver real products by the shortest safest supply chain possible. Our customers include some 700,000 school children plus hospitals and universities who benefit from excellent food security, welfare standards, sustainability and provenance. Lower Hurst is a 260 acre family farm on the banks of the river Dove in the Peak District National Park. We have been fully certified with full organic status for twenty five years. Our main farming enterprise is our herd of 150 pedigree Hereford cattle which is managed by Dale and Will on an all grass diet of summer grazing and winter silage. In 2007 a Local Authority asked us to supply organic meatballs to all their primary schools, and so started Lower Hurst Organic (LHO) providing food for schools. Demand for LHO’s meatballs and burgers grew and we soon needed to source from other beef producers like ourselves. Today, we work with a group of organic beef farmers who are subject to the same organic inspections and controls as we are. We believe that we offer the ultimate in food security and that we demonstrate the shortest and safest supply chain possible. Lower Hurst Organic’s production unit is still housed in former farm buildings not far from the farmhouse and contains modern manufacturing equipment and freezing and storing facilities.
