Petroleum Geological Circle (PGK)

www.pgknet.nl

The Petroleum Geological Circle (PGK – Petroleum Geologische Kring) is the professional network for geoscientists and geophysicists (G&G in the widest possible sense) who are professionally involved in Geo-Energy (and storage) in the Netherlands. The PGK was established in 1978 as a subsidiary of the Royal Netherlands Geological and Mining Society (KNGMG) and has its seat in The Hague (The Netherlands). Its 250-300 active members work in (or have retired from), a.o., the petroleum industry, geothermal energy sector, subsurface storage, and academia. The PGK aims to connect members through its network, to facilitate knowledge sharing, and to stimulate collaboration. The society has a wide audience with an open and friendly character and members are encouraged to bring a guest along. PGK members meet every third Wednesday of the month for a lecture and social, covering a broad range of technical, economical, and social topics. Meetings are normally held in The Hague and include an AGM in February, a barbecue in June (jointly organised with the SPE Netherlands section), and a Christmas dinner in December. Other than that, the PGK organises three excursions annually: a day trip, a multi-day excursion, and a long excursion. Recent destinations include the Omani Mountains, Albania, and SW Ireland. The PGK also has a Young Professionals (YP) section that organises regular events for early-career workers and students, including introductions at Dutch geo-universities and a YP excursion. Members are welcome at all our events, receive a monthly newsletter, and have access to supplementary material (including past presentations) through this website. The annual membership fee is 25 EUR (a 10 EUR discount applies for students). Join us by registering through our website: pgknet.nl/membership
