Foster Legal Services offers a variety of legal services to the public, particularly catering to the increasing number of people who do not qualify for Legal Aid coverage, but who also do not have the financial means to fully retain a lawyer. Services offered include consultations and advice appointments; document preparation; agency appearances in court; independent legal advice; notary and commissioner for oaths services; travel consent letters; and research services. In some circumstances, clients will also be able to fully retain a lawyer, with billable hour rates to be means tested. One of the primary goals of Foster Legal Services is to empower the general public to feel confident and competent in representing themselves in family law matters, both at the Provincial Court and at the Court of Queen’s Bench. In order to achieve this goal, in addition to the above-noted services, Foster Legal Services offers a number of seminars and workshops on family law related topics, including divorce and separation; custody and access; child support; spousal support; matrimonial property; separation and cohabitation agreements; and domestic violence protection. I also offer a more in-depth seminar on how to represent yourself in a family law matter.
