Connections in Mind Outreach (CiMO) is a UK based CIC with a mission to create and deliver effective evidence-based executive function skill development programmes. We work with schools, youth centres and charities to deliver executive function interventions to improve educational and well-being outcomes. We have a particular focus on working with young people who are are from diverse backgrounds, many of which are neurodiverse. CiMO has been set up to make the support that we offer to those with executive function weakness available to all. Executive functions are a fundamental aspect of brain development which have a profound impact our learning and wellbeing. Executive function skills affect our ability to plan, organise and execute tasks efficiently. They are also involved in how we manage our emotions, self regulation, control and self awareness. These are the skills we need to flourish in life, consequently poor executive functioning can negatively impact on academic achievement, emotional wellbeing, and job outcomes. Every child and adult has a unique spectrum of executive functioning strength and weakness. In addition to this normal variation, and the slow trajectory associated with maturity, students with ADHD, ADD, Dyspraxia, Dyslexia, Autism, Aspergers and behavioural difficulties, for example, often experience executive function challenges.
