In the Catholic faith tradition the family is sometimes referred to as the "domestic church." A man and woman come together in marriage forming a union with Christ, "wherever two or three are gathered there am I in their midst (Matthew 18:20)." When this union bears fruit in the form of children these Catholic parents, with the essential support of their parish church as well as the Universal Church, are responsible for the first impressions of and the most frequent experiences of the faith.
