The Philadelphia Jazz Tap Ensemble
www.philajazztap.orgThe Philadelphia Jazz Tap Ensemble advances the scope of American tap dance and jazz music traditions through current choreography, modern compositions, progressive performances and accessible environments and contexts for the work. Utilizing the synergistic forms of tap dance and jazz music, the company reflects a shared American history and our collective, visionary future, which is actively cultivated through education and community initiatives throughout Philadelphia. Our work is fueled by and connected to jazz music with a distinctive focus on Philadelphia musicians and compositions. Since its founding in 2014, PJTE has been presented by Jazz Bridge (Neighborhood Concert), The Philadelphia Jazz Project (7X7 Series), Reading Terminal Market (Music at the Market Series), Creative Philadelphia (Culture in the Courtyard), Dixon Place (30-30-30, Eight in Show), The Barnes Foundation (Free First Sunday), The Outlet Dance Project, the Allentown Art Museum (Third Thursday), and Symphony Space (Stam-Pede/APAP). The PJTE has been featured on the nationally-syndicated arts program, Articulate. Besides creating new tap works each year, the company presents the work of world-renowned women tap dance choreographers through the re-staging and performance of their classic works (Dorothy Wasserman: "Meet Us at The Corner," Heather Cornell: "Scrapple from the Apple," "Tap Tap [But Not For Me]").
