UBC Interprofessional Continuing Education
interprofessional.ubc.caFor three decades, the University of British Columbia has been committed to the concept of interprofessional continuing education in the health sciences – a multidisciplinary approach to learning where several professions come together to exchange ideas about various health issues. In recent years, this concept has evolved to include members of the public, often patients and family members who are facing the challenge of a particular disease. Interprofessional Continuing Education at UBC presents conferences for an interdisciplinary group of professionals, policy officials and the public on a variety of topics. We have been offering programs for over thirty years. With input from conference specific committee members, UBC Interprofessional Continuing Education plans and organizes courses and conferences, operating on a cost-recovery basis. Donations to the Interprofessional Continuing Educations Conference Bursaries Fund will allow us to make bursaries available to cover registration costs for family members or health professionals who otherwise would not be in a position to attend conferences. Interprofessional Continuing Education is well established in the health community and works with many credible organizations, including the British Columbia Children and Women’s Hospital and Health Centres, BC Cancer Agency, Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children, as well as community organizations to provide biennial conferences on a variety of topics. Conferences offered on an annual or biennial basis include: Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorder, The Early Years, International Seating Symposium, Obesity, and Diabetes. For each individual conference, specific learning objectives for both the conference at large and each session are set by the planning committee, who are experts in the subject area. These two-to-three day conferences bring together leaders in the field, both locally and internationally, to share their expertise.
