Our Story There are a lot of amazing things about living in Whitewater. We have a beautiful downtown, lovely parks, family-friendly events, amazing schools, neighbors that look out for one another, and a bunch of really great businesses. One thing that is sorely missed though is a traditional grocery store. Yes, there’s Walmart and the tiendas downtown -- and they meet a lot of needs for our community and we are grateful for them -- but we are missing that one-stop shopping and community gathering place that many of us crave. Whitewater Grocery Cooperative was created in response to that craving. We are a member-owned and -governed organization that is rooted in Whitewater. We are your friends, family, and neighbors and we are building a grocery store together. Since 2015, we have been working to understand what it would take to build our grocery store. We learned that it all starts with a solid foundation that includes Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws, membership materials, and (most importantly) our founding owners. All owners who sign on before the store are telling the world something: “I want a grocery store in Whitewater, and I want to be a part of building it!” In April of 2017 we incorporated, and on May 5 we adopted our Bylaws. That same night, we opened up ownership to anyone interested and signed up 60 owners. As of May 10, that number is 106. There’s a lot of work to do -- and this is going to take some time. But we are confident that with your help and support, we can make our vision a reality here in Whitewater. Will you join us?
