The Andover Shop

www.theandovershop.com

Founded in 1948 by Charlie Davidson, the Andover Shop has continuously served nearby Phillips Andover Academy and maintains an international following. Charlie’s legendary knowledge of the industry is as expansive as the Shop’s cast of notable clients. Phillips Andover graduate (’43) and Oscar-winning actor Jack Lemmon was a sales associate at the shop, and later a customer while studying at Harvard University (’47). The late co-owner Virgil Marson took up management of the Andover location in 1953. “Virg” annually toured mills in Europe and the United Kingdom to source the highest quality woolens and textiles for suits, sport coats, and blazers tailored on our signature natural shoulder model. At this time, Charlie opened our second location in Harvard Square, steps away from the university’s renowned campus. There he frequently hosted in-store jazz salons at which Miles Davis was a guest and client, beginning the famed musician’s period of “Ivy Style” dress. From these landmarks, the Shop continues to provide made-to-measure service to generations of students and professionals. The timeless cuts and superior fabric of our clothing remain the same, as does the attitude it takes to wear them. Our commitment to offering the best materials and tailored service has earned the Andover Shop a reputation that endures today. The Andover Shop is one of the finest menswear stores in the country, providing institutional knowledge built on decades of experience to give customers unique garments that will last a lifetime and more.
