BRAZOS VALLEY PUBLIC BROADCASTING FOUNDATION MISSION STATEMENT We are in the midst of the most profound information revolution of all time. The implications for understanding our world and its communities are boundless. KWBU and NPR are at the forefront of this revolution. We seek to clarify and reveal our universe to create a window to the future. KWBU was founded in 1978 under the name KCTF and was a television station. The station did not broadcast locally until 1994 when the station moved to the campus of Baylor University. In 2000 the station changed its name to KWBU, became a dual license TV and radio station, and began broadcasting NPR programming in the greater Waco area. At the time, McLennan County was the largest un-served metropolitan market by NPR in the country. In 2010 the television side of KWBU had to close its doors due to budget shortfalls. Radio operations continued. 103.3 FM runs national segments from NPR and also carries local news segments to serve the greater Central Texas area. These local segments range from the Business Review, produced by Baylor University's Hankamer School of Business, to Dot Org, a segment profiling various non-profits around the McLennan County area, providing information about their mission, needs and contact information. KWBU 103.3 FM is a non-profit station and receives funding support from those who are member/listeners of the station, program sponsorships from businesses in Greater Waco, support from the Public Broadcasting Corporation, and it's long standing partnership with Baylor University. Membership is the most important source of 103.3 FM's budget.
