Cutting carbon and tackling fuel poverty are two of the biggest challenges of the century. We need to make our homes fit for the 21st century and beyond if we are to deliver Net Zero targets by 2050 and end the choice between heating and eating. The only way this can be achieved is by upgrading millions of homes to make them more energy-efficient through a process known as retrofitting. Over 27 million UK homes are in need of improvement through the installation of energy efficiency measures and renewable energy solutions. To decarbonise these homes, we need an army of retrofitters estimated to be 400,000 strong by the end of this decade – from specialist designers, coordinators, assessors and customer advisors to insulation installers. The Retrofit Academy develops and delivers the support and training required for this growing sector in partnership with government, industry and academia.
