The Mountaineer Area Rescue Group, Inc. (MARG) is an all volunteer search and rescue organization dedicated to saving lives in the outdoors. Our missions include wilderness search for lost persons and rescue of the injured from hiking, hunting, or other outdoor accidents. We also assist with other outdoor rescues including cave rescues and technical (requiring the use of rope) evacuations of the injured. Our group is composed of experts in many fields including search management, cave rescue, communications, and wilderness medicine. We are member of the Appalachian Search and Rescue Conference (ASRC). We focus primarily on searches for lost and missing persons in a wilderness and non-urban environment. We can, and have worked on searches ranging from a neighborhood search for a missing child to large, multi-day incidents utilizing hundreds of volunteers searching thousands of acres. From time to time, we also put our skills to use in public service providing communications and first-aid for events such as races from 5-50K. In addition, we have close partnerships with many local emergency management agencies and have assisted with disaster relief during a variety of natural disasters. The Mountaineer Area Rescue Group responds to most requests for assistance from responsible agencies including police, fire and emergency management.
