The Institute for Media and Communication Science (IfMK) is one of the largest communication science schools in Germany specializing on digital media and communication, primarily from a social science perspective with strong interdisciplinary links to management and computer science. Digital and mobile communication, political communication, strategic communication, communication management, media psychology, and virtual worlds are the core areas of research and teaching. International perspectives are a defining element in all of these fields. The IfMK offers a Bachelor's degree in Applied Media and Communication Science and the English-language Master's degree in Media and Communication Science. IfMK takes a global and international approach through worldwide exchange programs, research collaborations with institutions across the globe, and students from all continents providing insights into the globalized working and living environment. The IfMK belongs to the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Media at the Technische Universität Ilmenau.
