ohmsett.bsee.govOhmsett is one of the largest outdoor saltwater wave/tow tanks in North America, measuring 203.3 meters long (667 feet) by 19.8 meters wide (65 feet) by 2.44 meters deep (8 feet). The tank is filled with 2.6 million gallons of crystal clear saltwater. It is the only facility where full-scale oil spill response equipment research, testing, and training can be conducted in a marine environment with oil under controlled environmental conditions (waves and oil types). With recent emphasis on developing renewable energy sources, Ohmsett offers a research and testing venue for wave energy conversion devices. From the private sector to government agencies and industry, more than 40 different companies from 37 countries have used Ohmsett for R&D, testing, and training.
