The Coexist Initiative

The Coexist Initiative is a not for profit national network of men and boy’s organizations focusing on the elimination of gender based violence, promoting the respect of human rights and fostering peace and reconciliation. The Coexist was founded in 2002 and officially registered in 2005 (No 6054). We primarily work in all regions in Kenya. Further, we are extensively networked with other organizations regionally and internationally. By combining diverse national, regional and international networks with extensive outreach, The Coexist Initiative works expansively on eliminating gender based violence, homophobia, respect of human rights of minority groups and nurturing the culture of dialogue. Through its engagement, Coexist has created mechanisms of harnessing the input of men and boys into achieving its strategic objectives The Coexist Initiative governance structure consists of a seven member strategic advisory council with diverse professional backgrounds, skills and experiences that is responsible for the directing and overseeing of the overall operations of the organization including tactical direction, programs and finances and a secretariat headed by an programs director mandated to conceptualize, design and implement projects and also acts as the secretary to the board. The Coexist Initiative has its own external auditors who conduct yearly management and financial audits for the institution. Our awards to date include: 1. Egerton University Gender Award-2017 2. Global Inter-Cultural Innovation Award - 2016 in Baku (Azerbaijan) 3. Avon Global Communications Award - 2015 in USA 4.
