In 1991, the world-renowned primatologist Jane Goodall started an amazing program called “Roots & Shoots.” This program is designed to educate youth about environmental issues and humanitarian values, with a special focus on group interaction. In 1999, Shanghai Roots & Shoots was established and granted a non-profit organization status by the Shanghai Municipality Governmen. Adopting Dr Jane Goodall’s values, we help youth attain positive experiences from their community and natural surroundings, understand the symbiotic relationship between beings on earth, and allow them to improve the environment in their own way. Through this, they develop love and respect for nature, animals, the environment, culture, and people. Thus far, Shanghai Roots & Shoots has successfully established over 350 R&S groups in Shanghai and its surrounding provinces, covering both local and international schools in Shanghai, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Huibei, Guangdong, etc.
