Never Okay Project
www.change.orgViolence and harassment in the world of work are among the most difficult and insidious issues to tackle. Victims are so often in a position of vulnerability, afraid of damaging their careers or even losing their jobs altogether if they dare to rock the boat. Nearly one-third of women in G20 countries have faced sexual harassment at work but the majority suffer in silence (Women at Work Poll, 2015). Our public survey in 2018 showed 96% of women and 77% of men in Indonesia experienced sexual harassment in the workplace (from a total of 1240 respondents). Unfortunately, only 14.27% of victims report their experience to HR/Management. Through our platform, we believe that telling stories is a part of the resistance. Stories need to be told, deconstructed, and reconstructed—not simply heard—in order to avoid reifying existing unhelpful or oppressive stories. Never Okay Project, is the first platform in Indonesia that provides a space for survivors of sexual harassment at the workplace to share their stories anonymously.
