Unloop

www.un-loop.org

Unloop enables people who have been in prison to succeed in careers in tech. We do this work by building a pathway from marginalization to thriving wage work. The path begins through our partnerships with community colleges in prisons and continues in our Unloop Opportunity and Development Studio--a sixteen week skills bootcamp housed inside of our live software development studio that leads to paid internship placements and business development. More people are incarcerated in the United States than in any other country in the world, with 2.3 million currently behind bars. Over 40% of those released from prison will be re-incarcerated within three years. Getting a job after release is a major predictor of successful reentry into the community, but most people leaving prison do not have access to living-wage jobs due to lack of in-demand skills and the stigma of a criminal record. Meanwhile, there is opportunity in the tech industry. There are 223,000 estimated open software developer jobs in the United States. We believe that given access to a coding education and a network of support, people with records can succeed in the tech industry, break the cycles of incarceration for their families, and become leaders in their communities.
