GrapeSEED is a fun and engaging, oral language acquisition curriculum that provides a bridge to reading and writing skills. We are a company that is passionate about transforming children’s and teachers’ lives by empowering them with excellent English oral language instruction and skills. What We Do: We focus on developing all oral language acquisition modalities including receptive, productive and interactive.1 We provide a curriculum that is fun and engaging for students, which is much more conducive to learning because it provides a relaxed learning environment and allows students to have a lower affective filter. We focus on developing vocabulary within expressions that are needed for effective communication. We teach writing skills, including letter and word formation and simple sentence construction. We teach introductory reading skills including decoding and word attack skills as well as basic reading fluency and monitoring for sense-making with GrapeSEED controlled vocabulary. We believe that for students to become successful readers and writers, they must first build a strong foundation in decoding and fluency (Snow, Burns, & Griffin, 1998) as well as develop a comprehensive English vocabulary (Sidek & Rahim, 2015; Anjomshoa & Zamanian, 2014; Anderson & Freebody, 1991; Nagy, Anderson, & Herman, 1987.) It is these skills upon which the GrapeSEED reading and writing curriculum focuses.
