Since September 2019, the archives, libraries, icon library, map library and collections of objects of the Paris Foreign Missions (MEP) have been gathered together in a research institute: the IRFA. In the continuity of the work carried out on the historical heritage of the MEP over the past 360 years, this new institution has set itself the goal of promoting it to the public. Researchers in all specialties, the IRFA is at your service. Our collections come from the missiological, theological, linguistic, ethnographic, cartographic and scientific work of the Fathers of the MEP, from 1658 to the 21st century, in 15 countries from India to Japan. You can prepare your research on our website www.irfa.paris. On site, you will be welcomed in our reading rooms: Asian library, map library and icon library are open by appointment. Behind the scenes, the IRFA team works to provide you with the resources you need for your research: catalogs, inventories, biographical notes, etc. To ensure that our collections have a lasting future, we are digitizing manuscripts, photos, maps and even films and audio recordings: more and more documents will thus be available on our website. The IRFA is committed to sharing the knowledge bequeathed by more than 4,300 missionaries, who passed on culture between France and Asia.
