In Harmony Therapeutic Services harnesses the power of music as a vehicle for individuals to process information and emotions, express themselves, learn, create, and heal. Staffed by board certified music therapists, In Harmony offers music therapy and music enrichment services to address individualized goals and objectives that may include learning academic concepts, improving communication, and building social and emotional skills. In Harmony also consults with teachers and administrators, artists, and parents and caregivers and provides professional development on how the arts can be used to connect with children and adolescents and promote their overall well-being. What makes In Harmony special is its dedication to being trauma-informed. Traumatic experiences can affect all of us and can create feelings of helplessness, vulnerability, loss of safety, and loss of control. Serious and/or prolonged exposure – especially in children – can have a lasting impact on the brain, negatively impact students’ foundations for learning, and lead to behavioral issues and difficulty in forming positive relationships. In Harmony has trained in trauma and learning through the Lesley Institute for Trauma Sensitivity and pairs music with trauma-informed supports to help children feel powerful, precious, and worthy. The staff and board of In Harmony envision a future in which all children and adolescents in need of music therapy services are able to receive them. Presently, music therapy is inaccessible in many communities across Greater Cleveland due to a lack of funding and resources. In Harmony is committed to using our nonprofit status to secure funding for these communities and provide the high-quality, specialized services that are needed.
