The DuPage County Health Department, founded by public referendum in 1944, works to protect and promote the health of our community. The responsibilities of the Health Department include: preventing epidemics and the spread of disease, protecting against environmental hazards and injuries, promoting and encouraging healthy behaviors, responding to disasters and assisting in recovery, and assuring the accessibility of health services. Among our many services, we offer immunization clinics and dental services, inspect pools and restaurants, educate students about healthy behaviors, investigate disease outbreaks, prepare for public health emergencies, provide testing and treatment for sexually-transmitted diseases, and offer behavioral health services, in addition to numerous other programs that support the health of our residents. The Health Department is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with some clinics holding evening and weekend hours. The Health Department also provides 24 hour support for mental health emergencies through our Crisis Intervention Unit. Individuals in need can contact the Crisis Intervention Unit at any time at (630) 627-1700. DuPage County, Illinois is located directly south and west of Cook County, which includes the city of Chicago. In serving the approximately 932,000 residents of DuPage, the Health Department employs approximately 600 dedicated health care professionals and support staff. Services are provided at various facilities located throughout the county, with Public Health Centers in Addison, Lombard, West Chicago, Westmont, and Wheaton.
