As a childhood cancer awareness organization, Alex's Arcade helps children cope with the diagnosis of cancer with an escape from reality and into the video game world, by providing video games to the oncology units of children's hospitals. Inspired by their son Alex and the way he fought his battle with cancer, James & Nancy Craven decided to act on that inspiration, they started the ground work for Alex's Arcade in May 2014. Why video games? Not only can video games provide an escape from reality for children diagnosed with cancer, they also reduce the stress of being in the hospital. By providing video games to the oncology departments of children's hospital ,the games are used as a coping mechanism to help reduce the stress of being in the hospital for treatments, extended stays, or just a visit. Alex's Arcade is 100% run by volunteers, from the founders to the committee members. That way every donation makes a difference in achieving our goal. Volunteers are an integral part of Alex's Arcade success, we are always looking for people to join us. Many hands make for lighter lifting.
