SoftGrid is an architecture, urban planning and sustainability consulting practice founded by Director Rolf Demmler in 2008, taking an active stance in designing and moderating socially, economically and environmentally sound projects as General Planners. Our mission is simple: To realize buildings that stand the test of time as attractive, healthy, comfortable and evocative day-to-day environments for their owners and users. Our clients reach from global companies like BASF, Disney and VW to local property developers and Chinese communal governments. Our projects include mixed-use, office, residential, cultural, educational, sports and hospitality facilities - both as new construction and retro-fit projects. In our workflow, we first identify and optimize the design according to individual project targets, laying the base for success. In a second step, we define and provide the tools for quantifying quality targets throughout the design and construction process and making sure quality targets are met. This results in a pro-active, solution-driven and target-oriented planning and construction process including the necessary training for project participants, development of architectural design, detailing and technical concepts, simulations and calculations, on-site tests and reports as well as the lead communication with all project participants. In our 15-years of sound, in-depth expertise in the Chinese construction business, SoftGrid managed various successful certifications within the German DGNB sustainability rating system as well as the PHI Passive House Standard for energy-efficient design. Realized buildings include Xiangshan Business Villas (Beijing, opened 2012), BASF’s R&D Campus II Office and Laboratory (Shanghai, opened 2016), Disney’s DRC Living Lab Retro-Fit (Shanghai, opened 2015) and ECO-City Passive House high-rise Apartments in Tianjin (to be opened late 2019), one of Asia’s tallest Passive Houses to date.
