www.airshome.orgIn 1987, AIDS Interfaith Residential Services, Inc. (AIRS) was founded by the Central Maryland Ecumenical Council as the faith community's response to the AIDS epidemic. The first Don Miller House, which opened in 1988, served four men with end-stage AIDS. Through strategic planning and community support, AIRS has expanded its program to provide supportive housing to the most vulnerable populations throughout Baltimore City and Baltimore County. Empire Homes of Maryland, Inc. (EHM) is a non-profit Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) whose mission is to develop, manage, and maintain affordable residential properties for low-income people and those with disabilities. Since 2002, EHM has developed, managed or leased housing throughout Baltimore City and County, using a wide range of public and private financing sources. EHM has developed 203 units of scattered site supportive rental housing with an additional 193 units in production. Thirty six of the units original developed were created through the HUD Section 811 Program. EHM also leases another 126 units of housing from private landlords. We serve special populations (disabled, homeless youth and adults, and HIV/AIDS whose income is only 0-30% of area median income. Our effective use of resources has ensured that no individual pays more than 30% of their income for housing.
