As our cities expand, urban built environments are being subjected to increased stress. In order to enable these environments to cope with the challenges that they are currently facing and will face in near future, innovative technology and policy solutions are necessary. A necessity was therefore felt to create an organization as an outfit of IIT Madras but with much more organizational and functional independence to address these challenges and thus CUBE came into being. Mission & Objectives (a) Establish an effective and efficient applied research center to address the practical challenges facing the urban built environment through the development and deployment of innovative technology and policy based solutions in partnership with Academia, Government and the Private Sector. (b) Engage in world class research, development and consulting in the context of the built environment in order to develop and deploy practical solutions that can enhance the sustainability, efficiency and resilience of human and industrial settlements, and to enhance human resources and talent in the country.
