Fundación Maquipucuna is a non-profit organization established in 1988 based in the Chocó Andean cloud forests of Ecuador. It's mission is to combat climate change by working to protect one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the world. This is accomplished by providing sustainable and dignified economic alternatives such as ecotourism and sustainable agriculture, working alongside communities to help them establish their own environmentally friendly ventures, teaching environmental education to ensure future generations are aware of the impact they can have, and conducting or facilitating essential research in a top biodiversity hotspot. The foundation manages a 14,000 acre private reserve as well as an internationally awarded ecolodge in the northern part of the reserve.
