Patient Choices Vermont
www.patientchoices.orgPatient Choices Vermont (PCV), founded in 2002, is a non-profit organization dedicated to end-of-life choice. PCV worked for more than ten years to achieve enactment of the Vermont law entitled Patient Choice at End of Life (Act 39). PCV seeks to educate Vermonters about end-of-life options and to influence policy, regulations and practice that affect the terminally ill. PCV's mission resonates with thousands of Vermonters because our cause recognizes the importance of freedom of choice near the end of life. Important liberties such as the choices Act 39 provides require continued vigilance. PCV educates new legislators and sustains its legislative watch function in order to ensure that Act 39 remains in place for the long term. PCV works to ensure that all Vermonters have knowledge and practical access to the choices the Act provides. PCV was instrumental in the establishment of the Vermont office of the national organization, Compassion & Choices, thereby providing access for Vermonters to C&C's staff of medical and patient advisory experts. PCV brings educational programs to communities. We work to forge relationships among medical and care-giving institutions, utilizing the broad expertise and institutional knowledge of our board members and advisers. PCV also works closely with the Death with Dignity National Center which provides valuable advice on policy development and implementation strategy.
