Food insecurity and food waste are two of the most pressing societal and environmental issues of our time. Our programs use food surplus and waste in a meaningful way for communities in need. With educational efforts that engage and encourage communities to make a difference, we hope to create greater awareness and close the life-cycle of this precious resource. SOS lessens the burden of this large undertaking by providing logistics and programs to manage surplus and waste, while teaching our communities to be more conscious of their resources. Food waste happens throughout the entire life cycle of food, from plow to plate, and therefore a single solution is not sufficient. In order to have high impact, create behavioral change, and increase awareness, SOS approaches food waste with several platforms that engage individuals, corporations, and farmers. We provide the logistics, labour, and financial support to facilitate the transfer of food to the most suitable destination. Good, edible food is rescued and shared with communities in need while food scraps are taken to composting farms that create nutrient-rich soil. Food Distribution: The focus of this program is to rescue edible food that would otherwise be wasted and share it with communities in need. Large quantities of food are delivered directly to orphanages, shelters, refugee centers, and government homes, to be cooked and served to the residents. Composting: We pick up inedible food waste from our retail partners and deliver it to our foundation farm where it breaks down into compost, and eventually nutrient-rich soil. This soil is used to support the farm’s production of high quality produce, which is provided to communities in need at no cost. Extra compost is used to create urban gardens in Bangkok or is used for animal feed on the farm. This medium-scale program reduces the amount of waste in our landfills, completes the life-cycle, and lowers Co2 emissions.
