Cycle across three countries Team Abana was formed in 2014 with an ambition to cycle across three countries and raise $750k for African children in need. In June 2016 they set out to do the first of three rides. They raced across America – from California to Maryland – in 7 days 16 hours and 9 minutes. They raised $250k for Chance for Childhood, an award-winning charity working in Africa to support the most vulnerable children, such as street children, children with disabilities, children affected by conflict and kids behind bars. The proceeds went to the building of a brand new school for deaf children in northern Rwanda and to endow the Challenge Fund for early stage ventures. Three years on and Team Abana are getting ready to tackle their second of three rides in an even bigger challenge. On 16 October 2019 Team Abana will cycle 5,500km across Australia – from Perth to Sydney – in 7 days. The team is raising another $250k for Chance for Childhood. This journey will test the entire team of 20 volunteers physically, mentally and psychologically. It is an inspiring story about ensuring a better childhood for children in Africa, and how a team of people can work together to achieve what they set their minds to.
