Dublin Maker

www.dublinmaker.ie

Dublin Maker is Ireland's Maker Fair. An independent community-driven event, it has been designed to increase the general public’s engagement with STEM and to illustrate in thought provoking and surprising ways its importance in society. Rather than adopting the linear, logical exposition from basic science through to everyday application the Maker model starts with made-artifacts, many of which have whimsical creative origins and invites the attendees to explore and discover the hard science at the core of the invention/creation. This inversion is behind the success world-wide of the Maker Movement in driving new engagement with STEM at all ages. It is novel, thought-provoking and explorative. Consequently the event actively promotes and supports STEM education as it is clear from the exhibits that a STEM education (acquired traditionally or non-traditionally) is necessary to acquire the skillsets needed to replicate the level of accomplishment demonstrated. As a corollary of this Dublin Maker actively promotes STEM career pathways and demonstrates in a genuine way, the creative, fun side of STEM which is often neglected in traditional career-oriented events. This will encourages people to consider STEM as a career option and further, for those already in STEM training or with a STEM career, to rekindle their passion for their chosen career path. Come join us in Merrion Square Park in the heart of Dublin on Saturday 22nd July 2017!
