Blue Pyrenees Estate
www.bluepyrenees.com.auBlue Pyrenees Estate was established in 1963 by the French company Remy Martin, and was among the modern Australian wine industry’s first ventures into cool climate viticulture. Blue Pyrenees Estate’s natural vineyard amphitheatre is home to myriad slopes, aspects, elevations and even contrasting soil types which provide a range of microclimates. These contrasting terroirs on one site suit the production of grapes for sparkling, red and white wine – this unspoilt landscape is a grapegrower’s paradise. Each wine is crafted with a respect for those grapes and their inherent vineyard-derived characteristics. This minimal intervention winemaking allows us to produce wines naturally, as we follow the entire journey from vineyard to glass. These vines produce the full-flavoured reds for which the region is best known—a complex array of fruit and savoury flavours combined with tell-tale Pyrenees spice. White varietals produced on the Estate are similarly distinctive, with elegant, fresh and clean fruit flavours alongside great minerality. Certainly not least, vineyards of premium-quality Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay, harvested carefully in the cool of the night and taken through the méthode traditonelle sparkling wine making process, produce a series of sparkling wines to rival the best of French Champagne. The French knowledge in establishing a carefully planned vineyard means that each grape variety in located in the perfect microclimate, resulting in wines of both elegance and complexity. Similar knowledge and tradition also influences the winemaking, with a nod to European styles.
