Reporters Without Borders also known under its French name Reporters sans frontières (RSF), is an international non-profit organisation based in Paris that defends the freedom of information throughout the world. The RSF East Asia Representative Office opened in 2017 in Taipei, focusing on eight East Asian territories, namely China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Japan, North Korea, South Korea and Mongolia. The opening of an East Asia office aims to better address the new challenges of media freedoms in this increasingly influential region of the world. The bureau, which represents Reporters Without Borders, serves as a strategic platform for operating the RSF missions in the region: monitoring, advocacy, public awareness campaigns, assistance and security training for journalists.
