The mission, duty and purpose of Red Elephant AIDS Awareness and Prevention (REAAP) is to engage and mobilize Black leaders, faith-based institutions and community members in an effort to publicly confront and end HIV/AIDS related stigma and silence in the Black community through social awareness, advocacy, education, mentorship and leader development. We endeavor to advocate for the respect and dignity of all persons living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. We endeavor to help end HIV. Why Red Elephant? Red is the official color for HIV/AIDS Awareness and the elephant symbolizes strength and wisdom. When it comes to the Black community and faith-based institutions the topic of HIV/AIDS tends to be one of the many “elephants in the room”. HIV/AIDS is an issue that everyone knows is there but no one wants to address or acknowledge. REAAP is committed to giving the Red Elephant a voice and ending the silence and ignorance that surrounds HIV and AIDS in the Black community.
