The origin of Thane SPCA lies in the desperation and ultimate vision of some dedicated animal lovers who came together to end the miserable plight of animals in the district of Thane. Way back in 2002 some like minded people from Thane began their endeavour by bringing medical aid and relief to street animals on the roads itself. Thane, even though a satellite city of Mumbai, had no awareness of animal welfare and animal rights. Sick and injured animals had absolutely no access to modern medical care. Two years of serving on the streets bore fruits in the form of Thane SPCA Emergency Animal Care Centre on a plot of land lent to us by philanthropist Dr. Nanjibhai Khimjibhai Thakker. TSPCA is a purely private initiative in action. We now have a separate Operation Theatre with all facilities to perform emergency surgeries. We have the supporting services of our 2 ambulances, one of which is the only cattle ambulance in the entire district. In the last 8 years of the establishment of the hospital, about 20,000 animals were rendered holistic service. The hospital offers lodging facilities for all the animals till they are ready to be discharged. Stray animals are treated free of cost, animals with caretakers are charged a minimal fee while pet animals are charged a full fee. A huge number of animals including dogs, cats, rabbits, pheasants, donkeys and cattle have been successfully rehomed. Wild animals, snakes and birds are regularly treated for their injuries and rehabilitated in the wild. A large number of dogs with physical inability have been treated successfully with alternative lines of treatment. Wild animals are regularly treated with Homeopathic drugs with an excellent success rate.
