There is an urgent need for a cultural and systemic shift to recognise that we have a collective moral responsibility to protect our natural habitats and ecosystems. Yet government and environmental protection agencies can only do so much. We need to rely on people power and a ground swell of organised community action to drive environmental stewardship in local to global ecosystems through observation and monitoring change. There are hundreds of thousands of drone pilots around the world with the ideal tool for environmental monitoring already in their hands. But to harness this idle resource, we need to create an organised community, and host a centralised repository for their data. We have more data, more technology, and more artificial intelligence at our disposal now than ever before. But if it is not centralised, then we can't derive the environmental or economic benefit from it to truly realise its potential.
