Women and Child Care Organisation (WOCCA) has been established in Somalia in 1996 by Somali professionals who wanted to make a difference on the ground, especially for the lives of vulnerable groups such as women, children, youth, IDP’s and those who are unable to recover of shocks from natural disasters with emphasis on the protection of the rights of those susceptible to GBV. Most activities WOCCA is undertaking in the humanitarian field are food security, WASH, human rights and protection whilst putting emphasis on peace building and strengthening social cohesion. Wocca also advocates for the rights of the most vulnerable groups. This is done through community engagement and radio sessions with intellectuals and human rights activists. WOCCA’s mission statement is: “WOCCA mission is to reduce poverty level in women headed households through integrated and gender responsive initiatives and stakeholders’ collaboration whilst contributing to peace building and gender promotion.” Wocca is working with FAO, WFP, OXFAM-NOVIB, UNICEF, INTERSOS and IOM amongs others.
