Poor eyesight is listed as South Africa’s number one disability, with an estimated 23 million citizens affected. But glasses are expensive. More than 30 million people in South Africa earn less than R922 per month, making an eye test and glasses – even the cheapest options – simply unaffordable. Due to our innovative business model at VisionBox, we are able to bring quality eye care and products to South African townships at a fraction of the cost of other optometrists and helping the community it serves in the following ways: Black Entrepreneurship Development Job Creation in community Development of Township Economies Reduce Uncorrected Refractive Error Unfortunately less than 7% op optometrists in South Africa serve the public sector of millions.
