Institute for Nonviolence Chicago

Using a collaborative approach, the Institute for Nonviolence Chicago's mission is to replace the cycles of violence in some of Chicago’s most affected neighborhoods. Through the principles, practices and teachings of Kingian Nonviolence, Nonviolence Chicago teams engage with the highest risk individuals and the communities in which they live to prevent and intervene in violence. Nonviolence Chicago provides outreach and mediation in affected hot spot areas; victim services to those injured or those whose family members have been killed or injured by violence; case management to those trying to move out of a violent lifestyle; reentry case management services for those returning to the community after incarceration; Nonviolence trainings to our communities and beyond; and community outreach to build and enhance community partnerships and sustainability. Kingian Nonviolence is a philosophy and methodology that provides the knowledge, skills, and motivation necessary for people to pursue peaceful strategies for solving personal and community problems. This approach is critical if the epidemic of violence is to be eradicated. Often mistaken for being simply the opposite of violence, Nonviolence is a systematic framework of both conceptual principles and pragmatic strategies to reduce violence and promote peace.
