Thread Ahead was founded to tackle two issues: a lack of sustainability in the fashion industry and the poor access to quality clothing faced by those with precarious immigration status, such as refugees and asylum seekers. We source brand new clothes which would otherwise go to waste and redirect them to those in need. Many people with precarious status have limited or no access to public funds or to the right to work. They often find themselves unable to afford basic items such as shoes or winter coats, and we are able to go some way in rectifying this. However, we also believe that having access to a dignified experience in which everyone is able to exercise choice about how they dress is important – that’s why dignity is one of our core values. We hope that everyone who visits one of our events has a positive experience and leaves feeling good about themselves.
